Standing up Infrastructure - No more tin & wires. It's all about automation.

Updated: Feb 3, 2020

Back in the days of old, building out your technology infrastructure involved many hours of working out logistics and change requests. Now with the advent of cloud offerings many providers offer options to scale up or scale out infrastructure all within a few clicks of the mouse.

Our infrastructure has essentially become an application layer rather than engineers planning complex scaling exercises well in advance. The offering of a whole host of automation engines that work behind the scenes are able to crunch predefined scripts that scale up or out dependant upon your requests. You can have full redundancy spreading from one end of the globe to the other, again, all in just a few clicks of a button.

These new ways of working where the new cloud architectures become our enabler for speed and efficiency poses a different light to some businesses. We must ask ourselves "is automation going to replace my job function" as I believe it can quickly remove a workforce that was previously much in demand. Food for thought!

Now automation technologies in the cloud can quickly spin up hundreds of machines that would have otherwise taken many weeks for engineers to rack and stack in data centers around the world

.

As the public cloud grows its presence strengthens, as its presence strengthens the workforce diminishes and only key personnel may find themselves confronted by the face of the application
